Sulit Leave

How to plan your 2027 leave (so every day counts)

You know the feeling: you take one day off, then realise that if you'd moved it a little, you'd have had four days of rest. That's what we want to help you avoid. The 2027 holiday list is out (Proclamation No. 1427, released September 11, 2026), so now is the right time to plan.

1. Know how many leave days you really have.

Check with HR or your payslip how much VL or SIL you get for 2027. Count only what you can actually file. If you need to keep some for sickness or emergencies, subtract those now. Better to have extra than to run short.

2. Know your work week.

Not everyone works Monday to Friday. Many Filipinos work until Saturday, and some have rest days that move around. This matters, because a Mon-Fri worker's "long weekend" can be just a normal weekend for a Mon-Sat worker. In Sulit Leave, pick Mon-Fri, Mon-Sat, or tap the exact days you work.

3. Look for the "bridges."

The trick is to take leave on the work days stuck between a holiday and a weekend. For example, the Holy Week 2027 holidays are March 25-27 (Thursday to Saturday). If you work Mon-Fri and file March 22-24 (Monday to Wednesday), your rest runs from Saturday, March 20 to Easter Sunday, March 28. Just 3 leave days for 9 days off. That's sulit.

4. Add your local holidays.

Some places have their own holidays, like Cebu City Charter Day (February 24), Cebu Province Charter Day (August 6) and Osmeña Day (September 9). If you work there, your breaks can be even longer. Choose your location in the planner to include them.

5. File early, but check again.

Popular dates (Holy Week, Undas, Christmas) get claimed fast at work, so file early. But remember: the government can still add special days. Eid'l Fitr and Eid'l Adha, for example, are proclaimed separately and later. We update the list when something new comes out, so revisit your plan before you book anything.

A few tips from your trip-planning friend:

Example with more leave: with just 15 leave days (Mon-Fri, national holidays) you get 40 days off in 4 breaks: Holy Week (March 20-28), Undas (October 29 - November 2), November 27 - December 12 and Christmas (December 24 - January 2).

How Sulit Leave works

Enter your leave days, work week and location. The planner (running on your own phone, nothing is sent to a server) works out the combinations that give you the most days off. You get a ranked list of breaks, a calendar view, and a share image.

We're not a government site. We use published proclamations and news, and every holiday shows a "last updated" date. If in doubt, follow the official announcement and your HR.

Ready? Fewer leave days, longer breaks.
